About artist: Yuliya was born in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine. She studied at Theater and Arts College of Dnipropetrovsk, and later at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her main focus in work is psychological portraits, which often take form of illustration on canvas as the latest works combined under the title "Modern Masks".

"Modern Masks": They are weights that balance out one’s internal upheavals. This series is a way of looking at human duality through portraiture, as external (light and shadow) as well as internal (psychological). Irony, Skepticism, Grudge or Cynicism, all are reactions, or masks, which serve to equilibrate, and not stumble on one’s weaknesses, falling onto his/her actual face.

Artist Statement: Developing and evolving of the psychological portrait has been the main focus throughout my work. The psychological aspect and its physical manifestations have always persisted thereby inspiring me to discover new mediums and improve the apprehended methods of work.
