Newborn babies get Cubs onesies for the World Series

Daniel and Sintia Stewart hope their newborn son, Ezra, is the Cubs good luck charm.

"He was born a Cubs fan for sure," said his mother, who gave birth on Wednesday, the same day the Cubs won the second game of the World Series against Cleveland.

On Friday, less than a mile away from Wrigley Field at Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Ezra was decked out in Cubs gear — a onesie that read, "I've been waiting my whole life for this!" — courtesy of Advocate Health Care, which operates a dozen hospitals in the Chicago area. He also wore a blue Cubs hat his mother had crocheted for three hours the day before she went into labor.

Advocate had ordered about 1,500 of the Cubs onesies for babies who arrived at its hospitals through the World Series, said Kelly Jo Golson, chief marketing officer and senior vice president.

"We hear so often especially as the Cubs were going into the first World Series in 71 years, we were hearing so many people use the language, 'I've been a fan my whole life,'" she said. The onesies are a playful take on the Cubs' momentum to end the drought for a title.

Maura Kidwell, holding her baby, Seamus, said she enjoyed the last few weeks of watching the postseason games while she was pregnant.

"He was there for all of it. He just doesn't know it yet," she said.

Down the hall, Cubs fan Candido Montalvo already had plans for his son Giovanni's future. "He's going to be on the Cubs one day," he said of his newborn wearing a teeny hat shaped and stitched like a baseball.
