Project Help Ukraine!

“Every little bit counts”

OPEN an organization that has been around for twenty years serves its community by providing humanitarian aid projects that benefit not only citizens of the US but also cities in Ukraine.

One of such humanitarian aid projects- “Project Help Ukraine!” was a huge success that brought the organization $4,000 just in short three hours. All the profits are going to help purchase medical equipment and supplies for those who were injured taking into account the unstable situation back home.

The fundraising event included selling Ukrainian cabbage rolls, “Glory to Ukraine” t-shirts, having a silent auction and making “yarn dolls”. All of which were a huge success especially for the domestic and Ukrainian children who thoroughly enjoyed making dolls that they could keep.  It was fantastic seeing little girls putting flowers in their dolls hair and boys trying to make their male dolls look fierce.

Svitlana Miller- a Ukrainian, born in Cherkassy, is part of OPEN where she has room to show her initiative and be a helpful citizen to her home country. After the event Svitlana comments: “I was touched to see such a great support from Newton community and from Ukrainian community in the state of Iowa. We had people who came from Ames, Iowa City, Des Moines, Oskaloosa, Ankeny and more…”

OPEN has truly made it possible to help purchase all the medical supplies and equipment needed for the sister city –Smila in Ukraine. It’s the little things that make big changes in this world.
