5 Killed, 38 Wounded in Shootings Since Friday Evening

Five people have died and at least 38 others have been wounded in shootings in Chicago since Friday evening, including a 14-year-old boy who died after being shot in the head.

The boy was outside in the 4400 block of South Greenwood in the Kenwood neighborhood at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday with a 15-year-old boy when shots rang out from a passing vehicle, police said.

The 14-year-old was shot in the head and died at the scene, and the 15-year-old was struck twice in the leg and taken to the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital in stable condition.

Witnesses told police there was an altercation at a nearby park before the shooting, but it is unclear if the altercation was related to the attack.

The first fatal shooting happened at about 6 p.m. Saturday in the Humboldt Park neighborhood. A 38-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk in the 1200 block of North Keeler with a group of people when two unknown offenders emerged from an alley and opened fire, police said.

The man was struck in the back and the neck and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Early Sunday morning, one person was killed and five others were injured in a shooting that led to a rollover crash in the Englewood neighborhood.

Around 2 a.m., a group of people were standing outside near 57th Street and LaSalle when an offender approached and started shooting at them, according to police. At least one person in the group returned fire.

Six people on the street were shot, including a 28-year-old man who died after he was taken to St. Bernard Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest, police said.

During the shooting, a dark-colored SUV driving in the area was caught in the crossfire and subsequently rolled over, injuring all six people inside the car, police said.

Another shooting Sunday morning left a 31-year-old man dead. Police were called to the 11700 block of South LaSalle at about 5:25 a.m., where they found the man unresponsive inside a vehicle parked in an alley.

The man had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body, police said. He was transported to Roseland Hospital in critical condition, but he was later pronounced dead.

In the most recent fatal shooting, an 18-year-old man was shot to death in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood. The man was in the 8400 block of South Hermitage at about 10:35 a.m. when he was shot multiple times in the face and body, police said.

The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

In the weekend's first non-fatal shooting, a man and a woman were shot by another man in a restaurant in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood, according to Chicago police.

The shooter allegedly got into an argument with a woman at the restaurant in the 4300 block of South Prairie at about 7:20 p.m. Friday. The man was then asked to leave the restaurant, but he later returned with a gun and opened fire, striking the 25-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man, police said.

The woman was shot in the left leg and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, and the man was shot in the right leg and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, police said. Both were listed in serious condition Saturday.

No one is in custody for the shooting, and Area Central detectives are investigating the incident.
