Elevated Films offers innovative rooftop exhibition of new indie movies

Interested in watching movies on a roof? Non-profit organization Elevated Films is offering sneak previews of high-profile indie movies before their official release dates on a Whole Foods rooftop in Lincoln Park.

Each screening will be preceded by a live band and will also include food, a Koval Distillery tasting and what the Elevated website promises as "great priced beverages" from the good folks at Revolution Brewing.

At $15 per ticket, the events are reasonably priced and all of the money goes to charity. Even better, the first two films, People Places Things and Queen of Earth (which premiered at the Sundance and Berlin International Film Festivals earlier this year), look exceptionally promising. Elevated Films is the brainchild of Eddie and Susie Linker who hope to raise awareness of indie films in a neighborhood setting and give back to the community by using profits to support local youth arts programs like Scenarios USA, After School Matters and Apprentice LAB.

Here is the 2015 Elevated Films schedule:

People Places Things (dir. James C. Strouse): A comedy about a 40-something graphic novelist (Jemaine Clement) navigating single fatherhood and dating in NYC after he discovers his wife has been unfaithful. (Whole Foods Rooftop, 1550 N Kingsbury St, Wednesday, August 5, 7pm. $15)

Queen of Earth (dir. Alex Ross Perry): Psychological thriller about childhood friends (Elisabeth Moss and Katherine Waterston) who find their relationship tested when they vacation together at a lakeside retreat. A Skype Q-and-A with Alex Ross Perry will follow the screening. (Whole Foods Rooftop, 1550 N Kingsbury St, Wednesday, August 12, 7pm. $15)
