Poroshenko met with U.S. Congress delegation

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held a meeting with U.S. Congress delegation headed by Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi.

The parties exchanged views on the fulfillment of the Minsk agreements and the efforts of Ukraine aimed at the termination of the Russian aggression.

The Head of State expressed gratitude to the U.S. for consistent and strong support. He also noted the necessity of further steps for the de-escalation of the situation and the implementation of measures previously agreed by the parties in security, humanitarian and political spheres.

The Ukrainian President noted the importance of signals provided by President of the United States Barack Obama at the ceremony of presenting credentials by Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Valeriy Chaly. These signals demonstrate constant solidarity of the American nation with Ukraine.

The President particularly emphasized the important role of the U.S. Congress in supporting the independence and sovereignty of Ukraine, assisting our country in the enhancement of defense capability, implementation of internal reforms and stabilization of economic situation. He also expressed hope for such support in the future.

The parties discussed closer interaction between Ukraine and USA in cyber security, military-technical sphere and the implementation of reforms in energy sector of Ukraine. Particular attention was paid to the attraction and protection of American investments in Ukraine, as well as participation of American companies in privatization in our country.

The President underlined active position of the Ukrainian authorities in further deoligarchization and struggle against corruption, inter alia, through broader involvement of American specialists.

Head of the U.S. Congress Delegation Nancy Pelosi expressed solidarity with Ukraine and assured the President of further support from the United States.

Delegation members praised peaceful initiatives of the Ukrainian President, as well as efforts aimed at de-escalation, establishment of peace and solution of humanitarian problems.

The U.S. Congress Delegation also included members of the U.S. House of Representatives Marc Veasey, Anna Eshoo, Rosa DeLauro, Cedric Richmond, Chellie Pingree, David Cicilline, Bruce Donahue. The meeting was attended by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin and Chairman of Verkhovna Rada Committee for Foreign Affairs Hanna Hopko.
