Ukrainian President Implores Mark Zuckerberg to Open Facebook Office in the Country
Ukraine’s president Petro Poroshenko has called on Mark Zuckerberg to open a Facebook office in Ukraine, addressing him on Facebook in a manner rather unorthodox for a leader of a post-Soviet country.
"Dear Mark Zuckerberg, we have to use all available channels to get reaction from global companies," Poroshenko wrote, sharing Zuckerberg's post about his Townhall Q&A at Facebook HQ on May 14. "Ukraine does need a Ukrainian Facebook office!"
Poroshenko also repeated that message in Ukrainian.
Following the Maidan revolution in February 2014, which toppled pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych, Ukraine has been eager to establish closer ties with the West.
Just like in other countries of the former Soviet Union, in Ukraine, Facebook is one of the most popular social networking websites.
