Locals are evacuated as Mexico’s “Fire volcano” causes alarm

Hundreds of people have been evacuated from the vicinity of a volcano in western Mexico amid fears of a major eruption.

The aptly named “Fire Volcano” in Colima is considered one of the most active and dangerous in Central America.

One plume of smoke was seen to shoot over 2.4 km into the sky.

The village of Yerbabuena, at the foot of the mountain, is said to have been buried in up to 5cm of ash. Rain is making conditions worse.
