Ukraine’s security service prevents terrorist attack in Odesa

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) was able to intercept a terrorist attack in Odesa, SBU advisor Markian Lubkivsky states on his Facebook page, February 23.

According to Lubkivsky, security officers discovered a powerful explosive device in one of the popular cafes in Odesa.

“During the night of February 21-21, near one of the popular cafes in Odesa, the SBU discovered in time a powerful improvised explosive device (TNT block, electronic detonator with wires in the form of “krona” batteries, an alarm clock watch mechanism,  and some 5 liters of an unidentified polymer mixture) that were placed in a plastic package near the entry to the café,” Lubkivsky writes.

Lubkivsky says agents of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Odesa dismantled the device, and the explosive substance was destroyed at the scene.

“This way,  through the joint actions of law enforcement we were able to prevent a terrorist act that could have caused a great number of casualties and destabilized the situation in the city,” he concludes.

Yesterday President Petro Poroshenko stated that Ukrainian security services succeeded in preventing a terrorist act in Odesa.
