U.S. Police Trainers Train Ukrainian Instructors for the New Patrol Police

On February 27, INL Director Christopher Smith spoke at the graduation ceremony of the first Patrol Police instructors. The 27 Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MOI) instructors successfully completed an intensive, four-week long Patrol Police Tactics Instructor course conducted in Kyiv by a team of 5 U.S. Law Enforcement Trainers from the Reno, Nevada Police Department. Smith underlined to the instructors that the patrol reform represented a historic opportunity to revolutionize the relationship between citizen and police in Ukraine by creating a new Patrol Police force dedicated to protecting and serving the public and molded on U.S. best practices. “The United States is proud to partner with the Ministry of Internal Affairs” on this landmark reform, he added. The 27 Ukrainian MOI instructors who successfully completed this intensive program – supported by experienced U.S. law enforcement trainers – will train the first wave of Patrol Police recruits. Training for the first Patrol Police recruits will begin this month.
